TENSION table
Initially inspired by Noguchi's Cyclone table, I approached the structure and design from an entirely different direction. This table incorporates the remarkably efficient interplay between tension and compression elements drawn from my experience designing bicycle wheels.
The support structure of the table includes a slender compression shaft balanced by thinner tensile elements (spokes). This combination of tension and compression gives surprising stability to the structure.
The oblique lacing of these spokes further provides torsional rigidity to the circular top and creates a graceful parabolic waist to the central column.
